2017 Elantra Features Apply Carplay & Android Auto

The integration of mobile technology into the cars of the day continues at a fevered pace, with every year bringing the latest and greatest gear into vehicles across the spectrum. Here at Hyundai of Cool Springs, we pride ourselves in the fact that the Hyundai vehicles themselves are always evolving, and bringing you some of the most advanced features on the market. In the upcoming year, we are excited to see both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity offered in one of our best-selling vehicles, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra.

Android Auto

Currently available in the Sonata models, Android Auto allows Android smartphone users who are running Android 5.0, Lollipop, or more recent versions to integrate their phone with their vehicle’s system. This provides Google Maps access, streaming audio, voice-controlled search capabilities, and over 40 apps including:

  • Pandora Radio
  • Amazon Music with Prime Music
  • Spotify
  • Skype
  • WhatsApp Messenger
  • BBC Radio Player
  • audioBoom and more

The lengthy list is expected to grow over time, with more third-party apps to be added in the future. Best of all, these new apps will not require any vehicle software updates.

Apple CarPlay

Apple CarPlay offers much of the same operation as Android Auto does, using a Lightning connector to work with Apple iPhone 5 models, as well as current models that are running the iOS 7.1 operating system or higher. CarPlay brings the Siri Eyes Free experience to your vehicle, so you can utilize the system without taking your eyes off the road. This enables the driver to make calls, select and play music, compose and read text messages, use Maps, find calendar information and add reminders, and more. CarPlay also supports a number of apps, including:

  • iHeartRadio
  • Spotify
  • Pandora
  • Vox
  • Audible
  • Podcasts
  • CBS Radio
  • and more

As with Android Auto, this list of apps is expected to grow over time.

While the combination of CarPlay and Android Auto will only be available on 2017 Elantra models to start, more models will receive the technology moving forward. Hyundai is also working to provide retrofitting options for systems on older compatible vehicles – these are vehicles that have Hyundai’s fourth-generation navigation system, or Display Audio.

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra

On top of these thrilling connectivity features, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra debuts with a refreshed front fascia, a stiffer and more aerodynamic body, a revamped interior, and new powertrain choices. The Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity come as part of the Popular Entertainment package, a package that add Hyundai’s Display Audio system that includes a 7 inch LCD touch screen, a backup camera, cruise control, heated outside mirrors and more. Display Audio is a powerful system that features SiriusXM Satellite Radio with enhanced features, SiriusXM Travel Link, and a newly-design home screen, all with advanced voice recognition for easy control.

For an upgraded experience, the Limited trim offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with a larger 8-inch touch screen and a navigation system. On top of that, this model year brings the next-generation Blue Link telematics system to the Elantra, with features such as Remote Start with Climate Control, remote door lock and unlock, Stolen Vehicle Recovery, and more.

We’re excited that Hyundai continues to stay at the forefront of bringing the latest entertainment and connectivity technology to their vehicles, and we will always stay abreast of the changes that Hyundai is undergoing, or plans for the future.
